Mappery For the love of maps

A remarkable map projection

This remarkable map projection illustrates how the world’s oceans form one continuous unbroken water body that is bounded by the continental land masses. Whilst the Mercator projection has been with us since 1569, it was nearly 400 years later in 1942 that the Spilhaus projection was developed.

This beautiful map which uses this fascinating projection, and some lovely bathymetric shading shows the voyages of the Nella Dan a Danish built Australian Antarctic research vessel and can be found at the Maritime Museum of Denmark
