Those are mineral surveys for sure. I’m guessing a BLM special survey plat map. One interesting thing is each mineral survey can have multiple claims with varying ownership status. It’s tricky surveying and mapping and title determination

And probably on bar walls across the west. But don’t confuse the mineral surveys with claims. They are related but not the same.

That’s the 5 cent version. It’s obviously more complex but basically there are claims and mineral surveys and patents and they all have to be riddled out to resolve title status. Plus the stacking and overlaps of the whole mess.
