Who can resist a whacking big compass on the back of the trailer in front of you? Well not Martijn Storms who really should keep both hands on the wheel!
This rice portion is in the shape of the map of Taiwan rotated through about 90 degrees. I love these food dishes and platters in the shape of a country. This one found its way to us via MapPorn and Reinder Storm.
Ken Field has a sharp eye for a map, he spotted this map of the US on Sebastian Vettel’s race helmet at the Azerbaijan Grand prix in Baku.
Casper Børgesen shared this impressive too piece of art which he spotted in a cafe in Denmark “Map-on-a-torso with the heart safely somewhere in Iran”
My friend Elizabeth spotted this at the Department of Coffee and Social Affairs in Carnaby Street. A little Norf Sarf geo-pedantry, particularly for a small group of my geeky friends. Most Londoners consider the Norf Sarf boundary to be the Thames. Teddington is in the London Borough of Richmond on […]
Today is the start of Advent. Katie Cruickshanks sent me these pics of a Mapvent Calendar. I love these – made a mapvent calendar from similar fabric for my daughter this year with geography questions to get the chocolate
We went to the Cabinet War Rooms yesterday (aka Churchill War Rooms) for a guided tour with our friend Mark who is a Blue Badge Guide. For those who didn’t know, Churchill loved a map and there are maps on the walls throughout the bunker, the Map Room is the […]
Ken Field (who else?) shared this bottle of William Wright Pinot Noir from Monterey County. Seems that a lot of our contributors are spotting maps on the labels of bottles of wine, beer, whisky, gin, vodka and aquavit recently. Is there something going on?
David Henderson responded to our post of Madagascan Chocolate with this chocolate from Glenshiels. Each piece is shaped like a mountain (pyramid actually) and there is a lovely map of the Glenshiels area inside the packaging. Note the reverse inset map that shows the whole of GB!
Usually when us geogeeks talk about map tiles, the question is raster or vector? Hans van der Maarel shared these outstanding ceramic ties.
There was a small photographic exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art entitled Anti-Mapping. The artists used massive aerial images printed on the walls to create a stunning effect. The texture and detail of the imagery makes you forget that these are pictorial maps and start to see them […]
Ken Field loves a bit of maptat, maybe even more than Angharad Stone. Here are his latest pair of mappy shoes, they even have a mappy sole. I was going to offer a prize to the first person who worked out where the map is based but there is a […]
Ken Field shared pics of his two vaccinations, both on the arm with a London Underground map tattoo.
While we were in Jerusalem we went to the Museum of Gush Katif which tries to tell the story of the settlers who were forcibly expelled from Gaza by the Israeli government when Israel withdrew in 2005. We wanted to hear another perspective on this event. I spotted this t […]
