Mark in Philly sent us this interesting use of a map at the Philadelphia Flyers Stadium. “The Philadelphia Flyers’ rallying cry this season is “Bring It To Broad,” referencing Broad Street – host to Philadelphia championship parades and home to its sports stadium district. While I was at the Wells Fargo […]
Beer and a map , you can’t go wrong! Reinder Storm sent this and several more to follow “Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo has (or at least had) a beer with a piece of a map of Michigan on the label – in a collect-them-all kinda thing (or, not as fun, […]
Last week my co-founder, Ken Field, was in London for the launch of his book Thematic Mapping at Stanfords. A triple opportunity, catch up with my pals and drink a couple of beers, talk about maps and his book and a special treat – visit Map Mecca (Stanfords). Stanfords is […]
I went to the Cartoon Museum (Wells Street, London) and highly recommend this little gem of a museum to Londoners and visitors. There was only one mappy cartoon on display, this riff on the Northern Ireland protocol by Nicola Jennings published in the Guardian in 2019.
Gavin Fleming sent me this pic that he took when touring the Bartho Eksteen Winery in South Africa. The lighting wasn’t great but he managed to get this pic as well. I think he captured a few samples of the wine!
A beautiful plate with a map of Amsterdam sent by our good friend Reinder Storm “A plate that I saw in the window of a kind of posh giftshop, at the Haarlemmerdijk in Amsterdam. What I liked is that they pointed out the place where you are standing, in front of […]
Reinder Storm spotted this sign for bicycle parking. “In the Hofkwartier you are kindly requested not to park your bike on the sidewalks. Around the corner, you can put it in the bicycle storage for free. Where you can find these is indicated on a (kind of) map”
Another good spot form our friend de Grommende Trucker, this time near La Chapelle-de-Guinchay, France. I guess this must be a motorway service station, always a good source of maps. Compasses marked on the floor are so useful (really?)
Mayra Zubaran sent us these amazing globes which were part of the 100 Globes to Save the Planet exhibition. Go Milan! Maybe we should start an annual award for Mappery’s City of Maps? Milan would certainly be a candidate for the 2021 prize.
Elizabeth spotted this poster on wall at East Finchley Methodist Church. Nice sentiment “Think of no one as ‘them’”
Reinder Storm spotted this painting for sale “Irresistable painting for sale … Is this what is meant by #catlas …?”
Steve Chilton spotted this fabulous pair of contoured barn doors on the side of a farm building near Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull
