Cambodian Forced Migrations

Harry Kuril sent me these pics, he said

“Here is a pair of maps I saw at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The titles of the maps are:

  • April 17, 1975: 1st expulsion of the population from urban centers and large cities
  • 1976–78: 2nd expulsion of the population to more remote areas


They show the forced movement of urbanites to rural areas by the Khmer Rouge. They are labelled in French and Khmer. The cartography is very clear, so that the (alarming) message is clear even in these poor-quality photographs.
