Mappery For the love of maps

German Globe Toy

Marc-Tobias sent me this pic of an old German globe toy. You can have some fun trying to work out the age of this globe from the names of the countries in Africa.

“The globe is in German. What’s surprising here is that it uses
historical borders. You see Namibia is part of South Africa for
example.

Using https://xkcd.com/1688/
-> Istanbul exists
-> Soviet Union exists
-> Most of Africa a giant French blob
-> Pakistan: Yes

Pakistan was created 1947, Marocco became independent 1956 so
around that range.”
