There was a march and demonstration by younger people today in Tel Aviv urging the Israeli government to do more to combat climate change. It was one of a worldwide series of events in the run up to COP 26.
This bouncy globe caught my attention and then I spotted the sign nearby –
The sign translated from the Hebrew says Meta on the Earth. Except in Hebrew meta (the new name of Facebook’s parent) means death, so meta on earth can be translated as Death on Earth. Whether this is a comment on climate change or the impact of Facebook I couldn’t possibly say. My Israeli friends are sure that the use of the english language is intentional.
Globes and maps seem to go well with climate change activism.

‘Meta al’, lit ‘dying on’, is a phrase meaning adoration. So that sign is saying “I love the earth”.
Don’t you think the play on Facebook‘s new name is intended?
